Colt Technology Services has acquired ThinkGrid, a hosted desktop and cloud service provider (CSP) that works with roughly 200 channel partners across Europe. The buyout will accelerate Colt’s SME (small and midsize enterprise) initiatives, where potential opportunities are set to grow 15 percent annually for the next few years, Colt said. Financial terms were not disclosed.
ThinkGrid has a strong brand in the channel, promoting hosted desktops, VDI (virtual desktop integration), unified communications, virtualized servers and hosted email to VARs, MSPs, telcos and other service providers. The company’s platform has attracted 35,000 users. ThinkGrid was funded by Runa Capital — which is backed by Serguei Beloussov, chairman of Parallels, and Acronis.
According to Colt and ThinkGrid, Colt’s channel partners will benefit from ThinkGrid’s advanced capabilities of auto-provisioning and fully flexible billing.
Colt, meanwhile, offers an information delivery platform in Europe. The company has a 22-country, 43,000km network; it includes MANs (metropolitan area networks) in 39 European cities, direct fiber connections to 18,000 buildings and 20 Colt data centers.
