Savvis, VMware in Cloud Application Deal

Savvis, VMware in Cloud Application Deal:
Hosted enterprise IT specialist Savvis has hooked up with VMware (NYSE: VMW) to expand its Enterprise Cloud Ecosystem program to include cloud-ready applications from the virtualization vendor’s newly launched Cloud Applications Marketplace.
Under the terms of the deal, Savvis customers gain direct access to ready-to-use enterprise apps delivered by VMware, including content management, developer tools, middleware and collaboration frameworks. In effect, Savvis gets to expand its apps catalog by integrating its cloud ecosystem with VMware’s cloud application marketplace. For VMware the arrangement also makes sense because it gets to expand its market reach to Savvis’ enterprise cloud ecosystem.
“The integration of our cloud ecosystem with the VMware Cloud Applications Marketplace significantly transforms and expands our application catalog,” said David Shacochis, Savvis Cloud Platforms vice president.
The main benefit of the collaboration to Savvis is that its customers gain entry into a wider collection of open source packages and commercial applications from ISVs, hardware vendors, content providers and systems integrators. Users can deploy, scale, manage and customize applications using vFabric Application Director, which features a self-service modeling and deployment interface and will serve as the application-modeling component for Savvis’ next generation of Symphony enterprise cloud solutions.
“We frequently hear our customers talk about the importance of public cloud provider compatibility with their private cloud technology stack,” said Ramin Sayar, VMware Cloud Management vice president and general manager in a statement. “We are pleased to have Savvis as a design partner as we ramp up our efforts to bring leading vendors together in the marketplace for offering a rich library of real-world applications on trusted cloud destinations.”
Savvis Enterprise Cloud Ecosystem, kicked off in August, offers cloud-governance and lifecycle-management solutions, including the ability to manage both on- and off-premise workloads. Customers gain access to orchestration, brokerage, management and governance solutions that complement their private, hybrid and public cloud environments, according to the company.
In return for participating in Savvis’ ecosystem, technology providers get free access to Savvis Symphony VPDC cloud capacity for API integration and testing, as well as direct contact with Savvis’ product management and engineering. Successful integration with the Savvis API brings access to Savvis sales and marketing resources.
