HP recently announced their Moonshot System, which is about packing a very large number of sub-10 W compute or storage nodes into a fraction of the space of what's been available until now in the enterprise server market. In this post, I examine what role virtualization has to play in a world where there are thousands of servers per rack, and how the Xen hypervisor is now running on the ARM processor architecture, which will used in the near future in the Moonshot System.
