One of the frequent questions are are getting in the #cloudstack-dev and #cloudstack IRC channels is "when will 4.1.0 be released?".  The answer is that we're working through the last few documentation and upgrade bugs for the release, and we expect to start another round of voting any day now.

You might ask, why are we holding off for these final bugs?  The answer is that the Apache CloudStack community considers upgrades to be a critical element of any release we make.  If we have a known bug with the upgrade process itself, or in the documentation for how to upgrade, then we consider that a release blocker.  We want to get it right for all of the operators and users out there.

Do we sometimes miss issues?  Certainly we do.  This is a non-trivial system, and there are bound to be bugs discovered even after we release the code.  This is why we have our bug-fix releases for in-between the major feature release milestones.  However, we don't want to release something with a known upgrade problem if we can avoid it.  If you want to see feature releases be out sooner / faster, feel free to jump right into the dev mailing list to help out with testing and fixing!

As for 4.1.0, I said we are waiting for the final bugs to be closed out.  We're actually sitting with the bugs in a resolved status right now, but we want to give the bug reporters a little bit of time to verify that the fixes do, in fact, resolve the problems (although not an indefinate amount of time ;-) ).  Once we get word that we are clear, I'll kick off round 3 of voting.

To our users that are waiting for 4.1.0, I hope you appreciate this attention to operational concerns as much as we think you do.  Thanks for your patience, and expect to see an announcement as soon as possible.

(P.S.: If you want a quick run down of the new features in CloudStack, our friends at ShapeBlue have a pretty good post on the topic here:http://www.shapeblue.com/2013/04/29/apache-cloudstack-4-1-new-features/ )
