As you've probably guessed from the flood of rumors over the last few weeks, this is the iPhone's hour. But if you're more interested in the upcoming launch of Apple's new iteration of OS X, Mavericks, it looks as though you won't have to wait that much longer. According to a report from 9to5 Mac, Apple currently plans to unleash the new OS sometime in October.

In the words of 9to5Mac, "The late-October Mavericks release is planned so Apple could focus the majority of its software engineering resources on pushing out iOS 7 alongside the new iPhone hardware over the next couple of weeks." The information was obtained from the ever-anonymous "sources with knowledge of the launch plans." AllThingsD confirmed the date in a later report.

In effect, this puts an end to a string of rumors that Apple would release the new OS at the same time as the new iPhone(s). The rumors were fed by a realization that Apple hasn't fed developers many more previews in the last several weeks; indeed, the last preview contained little more than some stunning wallpapers to accompany the OS (and which you can still download if you want a sneak peek).

As CultofMac notes, it's highly possible Apple will release OS X Mavericks after its Q4 earnings call, which would follow a trend that's been in place over the last two years with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.7 Lion.
