We're excited to host an OpenDaylight Mini-Summit on August 21 co-located at The Linux Foundation's CloudOpen event in Chicago. With more than 200 developers collaborating to create an open, common platform for SDN and NFV, the OpenDaylight Project is excited to host the debate and discussion needed to build a robust code base for the networking industry.

The OpenDaylight Mini-Summit will feature project updates for Helium, hands-on tutorials and interactive sessions led by the community. Developers, end users, network engineers and those interested in OpenDaylight should attend this one-day track.

Mini-Summit Details:

  • Developer Roundtable Discussion with Mathieu Lemay, Kyle Mestery, Anees Shaikh and Ed Warnicke: This developer-driven panel will explore the industry challenges that exist as SDN matures, critical growth needed for the community in year two, roadmap for the Helium release and SDN's potential impact on end users.
  • Extending SDN beyond the control plane: This discussion will be led by Anees Shaikh, Network Architect at Google. Anees will shift the focus from centralization and programmability of the control plane to network management and configuration by proposing a framework for the community to follow.
  • Hands-on with OpenDaylight's Apache Karaf-based Distribution: The Apache Karaf distribution provides end-users and developers with the ability to choose which core features or add-ons they wish to have in their OpenDaylight installation. Mathieu Lemay, President and CEO of Inocybe, will lead this hands-on tutorial to cover the operational basics of a Karaf-based distribution for end users as well as tips and tricks for developers.
  • OpenDaylight Performance: Red Hat intern Daniel Farrell will provide an overview of the community's efforts to better characterize OpenDaylight's performance and subsequently improve it. Participants will walk away with an understanding of the automated CBench regression test being developed by OpenDaylight's Integration Team, the performance-related discoveries it has yielded and areas of focus moving forward.
  • OpenDaylight Host Tracker: OpenDaylight summer intern Evan Zeller will share his experience working on the OpenDaylight Host Tracker and improvements being made for the Helium release.

In 2012, The Linux Foundation introduced a new annual technical conference, CloudOpen, designed to provide a collaboration and education space to advance the open cloud. CloudOpen North America is a conference celebrating and exploring the open source projects, technologies and companies who make up the cloud. It's built on a belief that open works: for users, for industry and for technology.

CloudOpen North America brings together the open source projects, products and companies that are driving the cloud and big data ecosystems today, along with best practices from the world of traditional open source.
