I'm pleased to announce two Chef vRA 7.0+ Blueprints for both Windows and Linux from Chef. They are basic, initial integrations, and have an example that demonstrates how to bootstrap the chef-client into a cataloged virtual machine.
Please note, even though the name of the Blueprint has Ubuntu, the only requirements is wget
and bash
, allowing the same process to work with CentOS, RHEL, debian, Ubuntu and other Linux Distros. Also, note that for the Windows machine, it should work perfectly fine with any version of Powershell 3+ and Windows.
There are plans to get a first-boot.json
chef-client run, but before we go any farther, we are seeking immediate feedback. The ultimate plan is, after requesting a machine from vRA you can have a machine already verified and bootstrapped with chef.
We invite you to join our official VMware{code} slack channel located at #chef
. This is a great place for feedback on these types of integrations and also anything from the knife
plugins. Help grow our community! The more feedback we get, the better we can make VMware and Chef's integration for everyone!
